Pouring Liquids | Chicago Commercial Booze Photography

Not everything we do in the studio uses strobes. In fact we use a ton of natural light. In this edition of our liquid Wednesday shot, we decided to go with a natural light image of a whiskey being pored on ice. It took more than one exposure to get, but we used all natural light. The second level of our studio faces due south with 3 large bay windows, which make sunny days a gold mine for beautiful soft natural light. We'll see you at happy hour.

Commercial Lighting | Bacardi Behind the Scenes

The biggest question we get is "how did you light it?" Well, there is no easy answer to that question. There is no one tool, no one light, no one modifier. We build each set to what we think will work, off experience, then build on top of that. Each shoot can be totally different and sometimes one final image can be 10 exposures, sometimes even more. In this case, it is the latter. Also, while it appears to be full of models, unfortunately was not. We did have great guacamole, though. The image seen above was not the final image, but just one exposure in a series of more than 10 exposures.

Bombay Sapphire | Chicago Commercial Photography

It's Wednesday, and apparently national talk like a pirate day, which means we probably wont get any real work done today what with all of the swashbuckling we'll be doing. Every Wednesday we will be posting an image of liquor or watches. If you have a specific watch shot in mind, or would like to see us recreate a specific watch ad, or would even like to be a hand model, let us know and we can add that to our shot list.

Klipsch Headphone Shoot | Chicago Commercial Product Photography

We recently created some product images for the Klipsch "Rugged Line" of headphones. The scope of the shoot was to find 4 athletes in conditioning, BMX, skateboarding, and mountain biking (above). We wanted to share the above image, before and after, to show you what goes into the production and retouching of an image with a gigantic looming rock of doom and a few other distractions. In the before image, it appeared as if our subject was headed straight for a gigantic rock, so we grabbed a few rocks from other photos, and layer masked a few in. We also took out a few other distractions like ripples, trees, and rocks.
